Regarding nature resource protection, we comply with the Management of Urban Stormwater Impacts Policy, introduced by the City of Cape Town to improve quality and to control the quantity and rate of stormwater run-off, also encouraging the recharge of natural groundwater. We ensure that the design of new developments is in line with this policy, as it is our duty as contributors to the built environment. With developments that will impact the natural environment, we consult with and include the services of environmentalists and freshwater experts. Green design principles are employed wherever it is possible. Our involvement in the rehabilitation of the biophysical condition of Paardevlei in Somerset West is a proud example of how Bau-afrika wants to positively impact our environment for future generations. We designed birding islands to create a controlled seasonal wetland where contractors, together with landscape and irrigation contractors, worked hand in hand to maximise habitat diversity. This rehabilitation also resulted in the vlei performing a water quality polishing function. Humble beginnings, perseverance and continued contribution to the Civil Engineering industry over the years have provided a pride of place for the company.
