AGAMA Biogas has built many units over a period of more than a decade and found that the risk of biogas leaking from inadequate sealing was extremely high when there was no experienced, supervision during construction. As a result, we decided to remove the risk of failure ( through leaking ) by designing a fully prefabricated digester. The BiogasPro is a unique, patented system that is engineered, designed and manufactured in South Africa for African conditions. This only works where a skilled and experienced construction team builds the base to the highest quality, and the Smart Top is properly connected to the base. A smaller, fibreglass unit called the LightTop will be made available in 2013 to large projects where the project nmanagers have extensive biogas experience. The first program with this is in KwazuluNatal and is being implemented by Khanyisa Projects. We at AGAMA have many examples of our digesters working. We are also acutely aware that any digester failures may impact on the industry as a whole. To ensure that we play our part in building the biogas industry, we encourage use of the fully prefabricated BiogasPro 6 for individual and DIY applications. The key opportunities for the AGAMA SmartTop and AGAMA LightTop are in larger-scale programmes where the benefits of increased local content for materials and labour can be achieved with installation by qualified construction and installation teams. Starting (or priming) an AGAMA BiogasPro is a simple, but slow process. What are the feeding and operating parameters that determine the design and how well it works? AGAMA Biogas has used its many years of experience to design a range of domestic sized biogas digester. Greg is an experienced mechanical engineer with a background in structural and dynamic finite element analysis (FEA) of structures and components in the energy and other sectors. Greg's experience includes energy project design and implementation, project and personnel management, engineering consultancy and business development activities, and the co-ordination and preparation of detailed technical and economic analyses. Greg is a non executive director of AGAMA Biogas.Greg invented and designed the patented prefabricated BiogasPro digester. Mike has for the past three decades gained solid experience, both local and international, in the construction industry and predominantly as a senior manager with an international oil company. More recently, Mike was intimately involved in the successful delivery of the new head office for BP Southern Africa in the Cape Town Waterfront, a building acknowledged as being at the forefront of green and sustainable architecture. He brings wide-ranging project management and corporate experience, combined with a keen interest in renewable energy, to the AGAMA Energy team where he leads the Green Building unit. Mike is a Board member of the Green Building Council of South Africa, a Green Star assessor and Accredited Professional (AP). The AGAMA BiogasPro is a unique, patented system that is engineered, designed and manufactured in South Africa for African conditions. It is the first small digester to achieve certification by the South African Pipeline Gas Association.
