What you should know about Black Key Diamonds

Diamond in Cape Town, Diamond Rings in Cape Town, Jewellery in Cape Town, Wedding in Cape Town

Black Key Diamonds was set up by 3 like-minded friends: Anthony, Craig and Gus. Their aim was (and still is) to demystify the often-daunting process of purchasing a diamond, by bringing the process online.

With over a decade’s experience producing top-class diamond jewellery, he will work closely with you to help find the perfect piece that adheres to your unique needs and budget. After we have discussed all the options and decided on what you want, we’ll source an exceptional selection of diamonds or gemstones and send you a few options in the form of a quote. As unique as your other half, our approach to jewellery design gives you the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind, distinctive piece you can treasure for life. Gems for jewellery or investment, we’ll give you the low down. Diamond colour is graded according to a colour scale from D to Z, where D is rated as the most colourless (and therefore the most sought-after and costly). Clarity is another important attribute when it comes to classifying a diamond. The fewer inclusions there are in (or on) a diamond, the higher the clarity grade and therefore the higher the value. Larger diamonds are rarer than smaller stones, and therefore command much higher prices per carat. For example: a one carat diamond solitaire ring is nearly always more expensive than a diamond ring made up of smaller multiple diamonds whose total weight is one carat. The cut and shape of the stone, for example, can make a big impression. This is the obvious choice for romantics and a classic symbol of love. This shape will also help elongate shorter fingers. A square or rectangular shaped hybrid, this dramatic cut combines the brilliance and depth of the Round, Emerald and Princess cuts. Like most princesses, this shape boasts a few extra qualities. It’s found all over the world and comes in many different colours. Beautiful gemstones once cut and polished, they can be found in larger sizes, sometimes as big as boulders. While we don’t recommend you wearing a boulder on your finger, we do recommend you consider the Topaz as an option. Rare in gem-quality and over several carats in weight, Tsavorite also has a particularly high refractive index, giving the stone fantastic brilliance and life. The person wearing a Tanzanite is guaranteed to steal the limelight when entering a room. Of the same gemstone class as Ruby, Sapphire has the second highest hardness to a diamond, and can be found in an entire rainbow of colours, not just the brilliant blue sapphire as is traditionally known. Like everything of true value, it is also extremely rare, especially in its finer qualities. The mysterious nature of the Emerald has even resulted in people selling them as special gems with healing properties. In fact, top quality fine Emeralds are even more valuable than diamonds. Feel free to get in touch if you would like to discuss the process of creating a bespoke piece of jewellery with us.
