Blend uses both traditional bank funding as well as some securitized funding structures for which the debentures have consistently been awarded an A- (investment Grade). After completing his articles in Cape Town with Moores Rowland, Martin left to explore more entrepreneurial opportunities, which included, amongst others, consulting to retail and operational businesses. He then joined a start-up company in the healthcare sector before he returned to South Africa at the end of 2002 where he consulted to the manufacturing and retail sector. He joined Retail Africa in 2004, a market leader in shopping center developments. He was responsible for the financial team that looked after and critically evaluated the financial and operational performance of multiple shopping centers before joining Blend in April He has spent several years in the structured finance industry, concentrating on legal structuring and the financing of property transactions. He brings his experience in the legal, financing and risk management aspect of property to further complement the skills and expertise of the team. In addition, he is responsible for the current developments being undertaken by Blend. Besides being responsible for driving the property and facilities management divisions of Blend, he has ensured that all operational aspects of the business have been taken care of since After graduating with a B.Com Honours degree, Hashmat spent five years in the banking industry where he learnt the importance of good financial management through both accuracy and compliance.
