International roaming agreements are in place with more than 220 networks from over 100 countries. An increasing number of accommodation establishments offer WI-FI and most towns have internet cafes. For self-drive tourists that wish to travel to remote areas the hiring of a satellite phone is highly recommended. Credit Cards & Currency The currency in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar (N$) which is linked to the South African Rand and is equal to it. These are the only two currencies accepted in Namibia, however the Namibian Dollar is not accepted in South Africa. Foreign currencies and traveler’s cheques can be exchanged upon arrival at the international airport Hosea Kutako or at the numerous foreign exchange bureaus which are available in all major towns throughout Namibia. It is advisable for self-drive tourists to carry some cash for remote areas and to pay for all fuel expenses. All major credit cards are generally accepted. Namibia has a good network of ATM’s facilities available for drawing cash.
