Harryson  started his business in June 2010, just a week upon arrival in South Africa. He had capital of R50 was his pocket money and a train train ticket for the purpose of visiting his mum who was to go under surgery and to travel to Maitland Home Affairs Office where he was inspired to observe people borrowing pens to fill-in various forms. He searched for suppliers of pen and
negotiated with a shop keeper in China Town, Ottery, for a box of 50 Pens for R50 and sold each at R3 - R5.  He used to travel 4am to go sell pens  up to 10am. After some time saving money Harryson started making bracelets. He was inspired  by Mrs Everlin Caleb from African Women's Jewellery. She loved everything he made with his hands and bought most of his jewellery. She always challenged him for something new each time they met. Harryson grew to become the main supplier of bracelets to many craft stalls in Cape Town, until he saved enough money to buy his machine and other tools to make wallets, belts and bags. Today Cape Masai Leather which was officially registered in 2012 makes hand made genuine leather bags, belts and wallets which are top recommend in leather category in South Africa.  His business has grown to employ 5 permanent staff members and created more than 20 indirect jobs. Harryson mentions that one of his challenges is capital to expand the business, however he is grateful and humbled for the support he receives from his local and country wide customers.Harryson tells us that he learnt a lot from his mentors, Slim, Peter Ambwa and Jeffrey Njenga and Tim the Zulu prince who always reminded him
to stay truthful to himself and to be consistent in producing his craft. Today he is a living testimony of the phrase “ hard work, never fails”. He mentions his wife, Lawrine, as a strong pillar in his life as she fully supported him and gave up her accounting career to join his business and now she is the production manager. No job is easy or hard.

YKK
The CYCLE OF GOODNESS™ is the corporate philosophy established by YKK’s founder, Tadao Yoshida, who believed that “no one prospers without rendering benefit to others.” It expresses the basic belief of the YKK Group. Tadao Yoshida firmly believed that business belongs to society. As an important member of society, a company survives through coexistence. When the benefits are shared, the value of the company’s existence will be recognized by society. When pursuing his business, Mr. Yoshida was most concerned with that aspect and would find a path leading to mutual prosperity. He believed that using ingenuity and inventiveness in business activities and constantly creating new value would lead to the success of clients and business partners and make it possible to contribute to society. This type of reasoning is referred to as the CYCLE OF GOODNESS™ and has always served as the foundation of our business activities. We have inherited this way of thinking and have established it as the YKK corporate philosophy.
