We use an initial sealer which is oil based for maximum penetration. And they even cleaned the area where they had worked thoroughly! The deck looks fantastic and the team were very professional. The wood is moderately difficult to work with and due to interlocked grains and toughness has a blunting effect on tools. It is unsuitable for nailing and glueing results are variable. With hardwood decking the trend is to initially oil the deck and then leave to weather naturally (silvery grey). If preferred one can lightly sand the deck and reseal every once in awhile.
