We own and manage a growing residential portfolio, currently 3375 rental units in well located areas in Cape Town. Not just another landlord, Communicare provides rental housing to a wide range of tenants including a large portfolio of social rentals (properties rented at discounted rates). Through our social development programme Communicare actively supports the tenants in our social rentals to improve their quality of life. Over 80 years old, our innovative organisational style ensures that we continuously improve the way we work and lead the way in our sector. Our social enterprise business model enables us to provide social rentals while also growing sustainably. We combine the state’s capital grants and subsidies with surpluses from our commercially-viable residential property activities to finance the development of new social rentals, making them financially feasible and sustainable. The tenants who pay market rates enable us to achieve a steady flow of annuity income that allows us to sustainably add new social rental units. It also makes it possible for us to offer concessionary rentals to our most vulnerable tenants, especially those dependent on the old age pension. Communicare has created a separate brand as part of a strategic diversification process to facilitate the company’s property sales and to serve a wider variety of markets. Communicare has provided rental accommodation in the Western Cape for over 87 years. We are not just a social housing provider and have a range of units in a variety of complexes to suit a wide variety of needs.
