DICAG became an independent organisation as from September 1 1997 with close affiliation and collaboration with Disabled People South Africa.
OUR VISION DICAG will continue to be a organisation of parents that advocates for the rights of children with disabilities and their full integration into society with equal opportunities for all. Promotion of full integration and independence of children with disabilities. Mobilisation of parents of the children with disabilities and raising their awareness on rights of their children and strategies to lobby for those rights. This strategy is a culmination of extensive consultation with stakeholders from across the country including Children’s Rights organizations, ICT focused on Children’s Organizations of which there is only a few in our country. What support is expected from the external stakeholder going forward? Child Rights Connect is an international network of NGOs that advocates for children’s enjoyment of their and empowers children’s rights defenders, including children, NGOs, NHRIs, and Ombudspersons, to engage effectively with the Committee on the Rights of the Child. To ensure that children’s rights defenders are represented at each country pre-session of the Committee. Representatives of non-governmental organisations are invited to attend. The key objective of the Strategy is to discuss matters pertaining to children and ICTs at national, c ontinental and in ternational level and how government, NGO’s and industry can collaborate on promoting positive participation of children in the ITC environment as contributors producers or consumers. There is a number of ad hoc uncoordinated programs that specifically focuses on children epowerment in the Department and the State Owned Enterprises but, very few initiatives or strategies that aims at transforming the way in which the Department and its State Owned Enterprises do business. That all programs aimed at children should be child friendly and have a deliberate intention to Empower whilst recognizing the fact that due to the history of South Africa there is a specific need to put additional focus on the development and empowerment of the child. when children are at school, therefore difficult for Children to participate in these. Poor coordination and inadequate implementation of programs, policies and strategies that could benefit. Uncoordinated participants and influence of international agenda related to children and ICTs. That there is no coherent Strategy in place that promotes child participation and a child centre approachto the work of the Department and its State Owned Enterprises and this is a banner in terms of ascertaining the real needs of children and hence the Department and the SoEs are unable to respond appropriately. An invitation to support the GDYC Chief Directorate in the implementation of the strategy. To assist in raising awareness of the strategy as well as in linking the GDYC Unit with sector organizations nterested in promoting child protection and empowerment. The dawn of the Digital Age and emergence of the Knowledge Economy has presented two forms of challenges. The department took a decision that the development of the e-Parenting Programme be progressive and incremental in approach. For developmental programmes, parents and organizations from rural and poor communities will be prioritized. Specific Interventions towards supporting parents to combat unintended consequences of technology. Specific interventions to support Positive Parenting through technology. Specific intervention towards supporting parents to combat unintended consequences of technology. The e-Parenting Progarmme will be implemented through the development of annual implementation plans together with the stakeholders.
