Botox injections have been clinically tested and used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat numerous opthalmological disorders such as squints and neurological disorders suffered by cerebral palsy patients. No, this is not a permanent treatment and needs repeating every three to four months. Only a small amount of the liquid is injected so pain is minimal. However an anaesthetic cream can be applied half an hour before to avoid any discomfort. In some cases the Botox can migrate and cause a temporary weakness in nearby muscles. In rare cases there might be drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expressions. However because the effects of Botox are completely reversible any side effects are temporary, thus making it very safe. Cosmetic denervation can rejuvenate a face which seems to be aged because of frown and worry lines. However this procedure cannot improve wrinkles which are etched into the face through sun damage and age. Botox can be administered in conjunction with Restylane a new, injectable substance of non-animal origin used to augment frown and worry lines. These two products, when used simultaneously, give a rejuvenated look to the face.
