Our reputation is based on supplying the client or builder with a comprehensive design service and drawing package which illustrates the design in detail. We work with both custom and production vessel design, where the requirements and details for the builder need to be taken into account. The exterior design is developed in concert with the overall concept of the vessel. Every effort is made to keep the styling well developed, simple, easy-to-use and practical at sea. The structural design for hulls, decks, internals, keels, rudders, hardware items and fittings is done either to regulatory standards where required, or to first principles. We do all interior planning and styling for simple, small vessel interiors and more complicated ones on larger yachts where detailing and integration of the concept with the vessel’s structure and systems become important. The mechanical aspects of the vessel are also a very important part of the design, which is why we prefer to do this in-house. Whatever the project, each design is carefully conceptualised and detailed according to the client’s brief, the use of the vessel, construction requirements and costs. Once construction begins, the DTYD team liaises closely with the builder throughout the construction process providing them with all required information so that the project proceeds as planned. Anton has over thirty years of practical sailing and racing experience in various locations around the world. On returning to South Africa in 1990 he worked at prominent South African yacht designer Angelo Lavranos & Associates and at world-class yacht building facility Southern Wind Shipyard. He decided to go on his own in 2000, and with the business growing steadily, he now has a team of designers. Lucille joined DTYD after completing her degree in Interior Design in Pretoria and her love of the ocean and interest in yacht design motivated her to move to Cape Town. Specialising in the exclusive and challenging field of yacht design fuels her creative side, and she loves the challenge of creating the elegant lines of a yacht exterior as well as designing the structures and modules that shape the intricate detailed interiors. After working in the motor industry for eight years, he decided to pursue his passion for drafting, which started in High School, by doing a part time drafting course at Academy IDT in Cape Town. Johan developed an interest in yacht design as it combines his love for problem solving, drafting, water sports and anything with an engine! She is always up for a challenge, this is shown by her wide range of interests from water sports to other crafts. PK has always had an interest in boats and boat design design and built my first boat in high school. After leaving school, PK studied boat building at the Cape Town Boat Building Academy and completed internships at Southern Spars and Southern Wind Shipyard. PK brings great practical experience to the team, having been a sailor most of his life. Sean is an avid young sailor, catamaran sailing being his passion. Sean’s passion is in yacht design and his aspiration is to become an experienced yacht designer. He has found the perfect environment to build on his boat building qualification and do so at DTYD. Sean started sailing at an early age and today, competes at the top end of the fleet in various classes in both dinghies and keelboats and holds South African provincial colours in sailing.
