The vision of the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, which informs all our decisions and activities, is to be the faculty of choice for engineering & the built environment students and staff nationally and internationally.

All EBE degrees are internationally accredited, so your skills will be transferable anywhere in the world. Each department has teaching staff who are experts in their fields and are active researchers. UCT has a large number of engineering research-rated academics. The faculty has strong links with industry and government, which commission and fund significant research projects. Our commitment to teaching and research excellence is matched by our commitment to addressing social challenges through various research interests. The faculty has an illustrious legacy, with many of its alumni occupying powerful positions in the engineering and built environment industry, as well as the business world and politics. Alumni and companies support the faculty through bursaries and scholarships, providing research and study opportunities for students within the faculty. There is an active exchange programme with other African universities and leading academic institutions around the world, which also brings world-class researchers and teachers to UCT. Our graduates are highly sought after, with most securing employment before they have graduated. Each first-year student will be assigned a mentor from their department. Whether struggling in class or with a personal issue, it is important to speak to someone. The Student Wellness Service offers a comprehensive outpatient health service by both medical practitioners and nurses, who are dedicated to helping students to remain healthy, and to make the correct life choices while pursuing their academic goals. UCT Campus Store is the one-stop shop supplying the university community with academic textbooks and stationery. Members of the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment believe they have a profound role to play in the future development trajectory of South Africa and the African continent, and accept the teaching, research and social responsibilities that accompany this role. Support, promote and inform the unfolding transformation objectives of the university. Ensure that the quality of our teaching and research in our various disciplines is of the highest standard nationally and internationally, and is recognised as such. Ensure that our curricula and research activities contribute to national goals and to provide an infrastructure conducive to achieving these objectives. Establish appropriate departmental and faculty mentoring programmes for staff, which encourage continuous development among all staff. Foster an open, caring, and supportive environment within our faculty. Adopt a fair, transparent and professional approach in all matters relating to performance appraisal and management. The Faculty Transformation Forum, which represents all the members of the faculty, will monitor and review the faculty's progress towards achieving its transformation objectives.
