The modern fashion institute must prepare its graduates for the enormous diversity of career opportunities that are available in today’s dynamic world of fashion. Herein FEDISA has been shown to be remarkably successful as the list of FEDISA graduates in the global industry keeps growing. Therefore, a serious fashion education is the access route to industry participation and success. As Academic Director and CEO of the company he now shares his considerable tertiary design education experience with the staff and students on FEDISA’s BA: Fashion Design and BA Honours: Fashion Degree programmes. With an Advanced Diploma of Management from the Australian Business and Retail Academy (Sydney) and a Business Management Degree from Stellenbosch University, he is responsible for all academic reporting systems within FEDISA. As Director of Student Affairs, Ms K works closely with the directors of FEDISA and shoulders the vast responsibility of public liaison and managing the institute’s student body, while providing day-to-day guidance and support to both students and staff. Staff Mentor (Part Time) Holding a National Higher Diploma in Clothing Design and an Academic Colours Award for Academic Excellence from the erstwhile Port Elizabeth Technikon, Ms Retief brings a tertiary design education background spanning 54 years to FEDISA, where she has been instrumental in the development of an exceptionally advanced textiles technology programme. Head of Department and Senior Lecturer: Production Technology (Full Time) Following her initial fashion design, tailoring and pattern drafting qualification, Ms Meiring further developed her substantial knowledge of fashion technology and adult education through a 16 year association with both the Swedish Husqvarna and the Swiss Bernina companies, two of the world’s foremost producers of fashion technology. She joined the FEDISA academic team in 2006, where she specializes in the promotion of the most advanced production technologies currently available. She continues to share her extensive knowledge with the students and staff at FEDISA, where her specific interest in materials re-fabrication adds an exciting new dimension to the fashion programme at the institute. Ms Meiring is responsible for t e supervision of all final year graduate collections and as such assesses close on a thousand garments each year. Senior Lecturer and Head of Department: Visual Studies (Full Time) Ms Avvakoumides joined the FEDISA team in 2011, taking on the Visual Studies course, after relocating from Gauteng. Ms Avvakoumides lectured at the Design School Southern Africa for six years, during which time she was appointed Head of Fashion and later Vice Principal of the institution. She has experience in fine art and a keen interest in visually inclined therapy methods. Ms Howard joined the FEDISA team in 2016 as both a bachelors and honours lecturer in theoretical studies. After moving to South Africa, Lucia advanced her studies with a Bachelors Degree in Fashion at FEDISA and was the winner of the 2009 Cape Town Sewing Centre Award for Best Technical Execution in a Graduate Collection during the final year of her studies. In 2016, she successfully graduated with an Honours Degree in Fashion from her alma mater. Ms Uhlikova is responsible for the development of student knowledge in production technology, pattern drafting, and technical drawing, as well as textile technology for final year students on the BA: Fashion degree at FEDISA. His responsibilities at FEDISA include the creative development of First Year students as he takes on the role of Visual Studies lecturer. She is also a member of the FEDISA Brand Ambassadors and a true FEDISIAN at heart. She completed her Honours degree in B Consumer Science: Clothing Retail Management (Cum Laude) at the University of Pretoria. Upon her return to South Africa, she began her lecturing career at the Design School Southern Africa in Johannesburg. In January this year she again relocated, this time to Cape Town to take up her current position at FEDISA, where she is also part of the B
