Rooikrans has a high carbon content and high density to ensure hot slow burning coals. This Australian tree was introduced to South Africa and grows extremely rapidly. The wood burns slowly and makes hot and long lasting coals as well as open flames. Black Wattle was introduced into South Africa as a source of Tannin, fuelwood and cheap building materials and it is still used for these today. Although Black Wattle is an Alien Invasive Species, it is also an extremely useful tree, and is perfect for firewood.
