FLOW is a Not for Profit Organisation started in 2010, in Cape Town. FLOW Inspires through campaigns, media, storytelling, video, education and speaking. FLOW Enables through supporting community projects, working with organisations and partners, new product and process design. To inspire networks of water aware people who want to be in action. To unify and create collective action to resolve the water challenge. To unify and facilitate collective action to preserve water as a precious resource. South Africa is a semi-arid, water stressed country, with an average rainfall of about 450mm, which is well below the world average of about 860mm per year. Water quality is defined as water which is safe, drinkable and appealing to all life on earth. In South Africa the scarce fresh water is decreasing in quality because of an increase in pollution and the destruction of river catchments, caused by urbanisation, deforestation, damming of rivers, destruction of wetlands, industry, mining, agriculture, energy use and accidental water pollution. As the human population increases, there is an increase in pollution and catchment destruction. FLOW enables to provide solutions to the water scarcity and water quality issues experienced by many South Africans. FLOW Facilitates to provide solutions to local water scarcity and water quality issues as well as restoring flow in corporate and/or community conflict situations. Today, there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home, spending countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water. The project uses Biomimicry principles to clean up the grey water, storm water, and solid waste challenges that the community face. We’re wonderfully excited to bring you Secret Sunrise Water Flow in collaboration with Secret Sunrise and Unify. In the 7 years since FLOW was established we have worked with talented, visionary and passionate artists, musicians, engineers, embassies, ministers, organizations, governments, celebrities, agencies and companies. We are grateful for their contribution and for being For Love Of Water. FLOW has used a simple easy to manufacture, set-up & maintain design concept for its Water Station units. The unit was designed in consultation with the city officials, and so has all the necessary details that allow it to be plugged into the city's water & emergency systems. Storytelling is the social and cultural activity of sharing stories as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and instilling moral values. With a different theme every year, they provide campaign materials for you to use. National Water Week in South Africa is an awareness week campaign by the Department of Water and Sanitation which serves as a powerful campaign mechanism re-iterating the value of water, the need for sustainable management of this scarce resource and the role water plays in eradicating poverty and under-development in South Africa. The Genius of SPACE project builds innovative water and waste treatment solutions in informal settlements in South Africa. The solutions are inspired by the genius of nature and the community.
