Rodger Harries (BA LLB) and Marc Harries (B Arch M.I.A.) formed a family partnership to design, develop and administer property projects. Having started in township development and completed over 1500 houses, the partnership diversified into industrial, medium rise commercial, office and residential developments. These include engineers, property lawyers, architects and property brokers. Century City is a 250 Hectare estate at the epicenter of the greater Cape Town metropole. Century City embraces the principles of new urbanism, providing an integrated, stimulating and aesthetically pleasing place in which one can live, work, shop or play. Known as Heron Place, this will be a five-storey office block in the Wetlands, an area with abundant bird and pond life. The Harries philosphy has always been one of collaboration with top professionals in the industry in order to deliver the best possible design solution for each new development. This subsidises the precinct parking improving the human scale and street relationships in the precinct as a whole. Canal Plaza’s parking garage and loft component are cut into Century Boulevard’s bank and complement Boulevard Place in scale and movement. Eventually it will comprise of more than 1 million m2 of bulk and will be home to more than 30 000 workers and residents. Creating a secure and luxuriously landscaped environment with running tracks, play parks, indoor heated and outdoor pools. Producing buildings with movement and changing roofscapes so as to respond to the waterways and achieve visual interest and a human scale. Producing well-designed apartments of good internal proportions with views. Due to the park’s location, within the airport industrial precinct, high standards of design, construction and environmental performance had to be adhered to and, therefore, responds well to the neighbouring developments that house some of the largest retail brands in Western Australia. Airport Park is the first development undertaken by Harries Projects in Australia, and is proving to be a great success.
