What you should know about iKapa Dance Theatre
iKapa’s vision & mission is to focus on the immediate challenges facing our people and society and we are proposing to focus and specializing on the individual human development to create a direct and meaningful interaction with the people & communities. This will be addressed through professional, educational, entrepreneurial & infrastructural initiatives and activities. Imagine our excitement when they chose Cape Town and the festival platform to host the first ever South African auditions for entry into their prestigious academy programme. Artists and dance companies interested in participating in this prestigious event are invited to apply now. This production offers multiple interpretations of the theme of peace and reconciliation and displays the company’s diversity of dance styles as well as its intense technical and artistic abilities. Forgiveness is an African Contemporary creation choreographed by Maxwell Xolani Rani and inspired by the works of Katherine Piderman who believes that forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. Forgiveness brings peace that enables you to go on with life. Finding Peace of Mind explores the process of finding inner peace and reconciling mind, body and soul. The Steps Repertory Ensemble is a company of professional and pre-professional dancers chosen for their diversity, skill and commitment. is a dance theatre production that explores the sharing of space, be it in intimate relationships, the controlling of spaces by government, or the ownership of public space by a society. Lulu Sala, who has staged his internationally acclaimed Power with the iKapa Dance Theatre artists, worked with the company intensively for one month and is excited that his creation will now be seen in South Africa. Celeste Botha, who dances in the production, has created Changing Spaces; the contemporary work is inspired by the changes that occur in one’s relationships by interacting with and relating to others. She utilises the set to provide boundaries within, and between the artists, thus affecting their relationships and the emotions this evokes. The three choreographers’ individual creations are technically demanding, aesthetically beautiful as well as physically and emotionally engaging. All three pieces combine seamlessly and complement each other, with their unique styles clearly displayed, making for a dynamic production.
