Having spent the past eight post-article years working for the top three global accounting firms in Johanessburg, Cape Town and London, Jason has experience of a diverse range of business and accounting scenarios. This multi industry experience ranges from manufacturing, entertainment, hospitality, financial services through to controlling and running the auditing and accounting function of a FTSE 100 media empire and its 134 subsidiaries. Seconded to Robben Island in 2008, he was tasked with turning the institution around and taking full responsibility for all financial aspects of RIM. The financial planning and restructuring that Jason implemented enabled RIM to advance from a R16 million loss in 2008 to a profit of R11 million in 2009, a R27 million turnaround in a period of one year. This level of turnaround in such a short period of time is noteworthy for a state run institution, particularly in light of its previous financial history. Sean has worked for a variety of companies in Cape Town and London. After serving part time as a financial manager during his final years at the University of Cape Town Sean travelled to London where he worked in the finance department for a group of hotels before being contracted to Vanco International, a company listed on the London stock exchange and the world’s largest virtual network operator. There he reported directly to the European Financial Controller and was tasked with producing a comprehensive analysis of the finance activities of the German subsidiary. This included a full income internal audit for all contracts throughout the global network, financial analysis, year-end financial accounting procedures and the migration of the London Head Office’s worldwide data to the new Oracle IT system. During this time Sean devised a new method of analysing the worldwide contract data which lead to large cost savings for the company. On returning to South Africa Sean commenced work with one of the leading accounting firms. During this time he was responsible for uncovering financial irregularities at one of Cape Town’s largest construction companies and for developing an innovative new audit strategy for auditing unit trust funds whilst running the audit of a R1 billion unit trust fund. Jason and Sean have worked together on the numerous projects including identifying a large fraud in one of Johannesburg’s largest IT companies. During this time they were involved in the take-over negotiations for this entity to a JSE listed company. They also worked on the audit of Cape Town’s largest public property portfolio. They were directly responsible for identifying all of the reportable irregularities that have recently been reported in the financial press.
