What you should know about Meditate in Capetown
Everyone is welcome to visit this peaceful and blessed environment. Visitors from all backgrounds come to find refuge from the difficulties of busy, modern life and draw inspiration from spiritual friends, including western Buddhist monks and nuns. The Centre is home to a wide community of people from all walks of life. The study and practice of Dharma brings us together and helps us to enjoy a truly meaningful life. The Centre also offers meditation classes at many different locations in and around Cape Town. Meditation is an ancient art which is being increasingly practised in these modern times. More and more people are turning to meditation to increase their inner peace, good health and wellbeing. The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. Since inner peace is the source of all happiness, we can see how important meditation is. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances. Our weekly meditation classes are suitable for all levels and are easy to understand and practice. He is also the Resident Teacher of Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Centre in Cape Town and gives meditation classes, half-day courses, day and away retreats throughout the year. His heartfelt and practical teachings are presented with warmth and humor, making them accessible to everyone. He shows the joy of living a spiritual life, and is an inspiring example of Buddhism in practice. Through his clear presentation, he is able to help student discover for themselves how to integrate these timeless teachings into our modern world, making everyday life joyful and meaningful. Geshe-la, as he is affectionately called by his students, is primarily responsible for the worldwide revival of Kadampa Buddhism in our time. Since that time Manjushri Center has been Geshe Kelsang’s spiritual home, where he has given thousands of teachings. Geshe Kelsang is a great believer in the universal applicability of Buddha’s teachings and presents them in such a way that everyone, regardless of nationality, age or gender, can put them into practice in their daily lives and begin to experience true inner peace. But though his teachings are extraordinarily clear and easy to understand they contain the entire profound lineage of ancient wisdom he holds. While at Manjushri Center Geshe Kelsang designed and oversaw the construction of the first Kadampa Temple for World Peace, and inaugurated the International Temples Project with the intention to establish Buddhist institutions such as Temples throughout the world. He has trained hundreds of teachers and ordained scores of monks and nuns, and transmitted a complete lineage not only of teachings and insights but also of prayers, ritual practices, sacred art and music, all tailored to the needs of the modern world. Though he has now formally retired as Spiritual Director, even at the age of eighty five he continues to work tirelessly to spread the precious teachings of Kadampa Buddhism.
