Just like an oasis provide sustenance in the desert, likewise Nakhlistan assist the less fortunate within our community. Nakhlistan was founded 33 years ago by a group of friends, who saw the need within the community and on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr in 1984, decided to cook two pots of food to be distributed to the poor and needy on the day of Eidul Fitr. Thirty three years down the line, Nakhlistan has become a household name, synonymous with caring for the needy and cooking of huge pots of food for distribution amongst the less fortunate. Nakhlistan is organic in nature, growing with the community, serving as a trusted and reliable avenue for channelling assistance to those in dire straits. Nakhlistan is not state funded and is solely dependent on financial support from the community. It has been through the generosity of the community that Nakhlistan has been able to run all these activities. Throughout the year, Nakhlistan is actively involved in the community serving those less fortunate with Hamper Parcels filled with groceries and other daily essentials. We also run Soup Kitchens and distribute soup and bread in various communities. We run soup kitchens in the Western Cape and serve those less fortunate with a warm bowl of soup and bread all year round. Al-Ghazali emphasized on the importance of knowing the knowledge of self since men’s success in this life and in hereafter will be very much depends on the state of his soul. He also stated that the soul is the key for those who walk on the right path (siraat al-mustaqim) and the place for the seat of goodness and badness. When someone is observing or disobeying his religious teaching, indeed, it is the work of his soul. The study of human soul is very important for every Muslims educator in view of fact that it is a part of our knowledge to know our Lord and to deal our daily job as educators who need to know learners’ nature as well as its purification.
