The Rotary Club of Newlands meets at Kelvin Grove, South Africa, in Claremont, on Monday evenings.
Our EVS volunteers have been working night and day over the last two weeks and here they are having a well deserved rest after fighting fires throughout the night. Just look at the ages of these volunteers, it is heartening to know that there are some youngsters ready to help their own and other communities. Wine auction raises over a quarter of a million Rand for sea rescue. Past President Colin Burke organised a wonderful team of youngsters to fly the Rotary Club of Newlands flag. They did well in coming third overall, winning the best spirit award and the best drummer award! Corinne Hudson did a sterling job in organising and providing food and refreshments for the rowers. These lovely ladies from Stop Hunger Now will ensure that these boxes get to those who need it most. The coffee machine will contribute towards the CTSB’s quest of equipping students in the hospitality industry to master their art. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. Centennial celebration honors 20 noteworthy global grant projects Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition.
