Occuvision brings eyecare to the workplace in agriculture and industry. We embrace the goals set by National Health Insurance to provide healthcare services for all that are accessible, affordable and are of good quality. Our standards and equipment of care match and exceed those laid down by Health Professions Council of South Africa. Our branches in Bellville and Vredenburg also offer complete optometry services to the public. We are strategically situated to render eye care services to underserviced areas in Industry, and to those areas under-utilising existing service providers. We identified, for example, the agricultural sector where a massive need exists. We have been instrumental in negotiating payment plans for eyecare via the employer and in some cases subsidies. We also helped many adults attending Adult Basic Education & Training (ABET) classes which helped their learning process, due to better vision. Due to working hours, employees are not always able to go for their eye checks. Occuvision have package prices to cater for this market whilst not compromising on quality of the service and spectacles. For example, we have fundus photography available where needed (by means of fundus cameras (also called retinal cameras) which is a specialised low power microscope with an attached camera designed to photograph the interior surface of the eye). Only a small percentage of optometrists have this kind of equipment in South Africa. It is therefore correct to assume that our core market is beyond the corporate sector. The corporate sector have different needs as well as the means to visit an optometrist of their choice, as most members have medical aids or are in a position to afford eye care whenever they want. By bringing eye care to the workplace, Occuvision offers the employer the opportunity to have their staff's eyes professionally examined without any loss of income to the employer or employee. Staff do not have to leave their workplace, or take leave to have their eyes examined. An alarming statistic is that more than 75% of the people with substandard vision we encounter in both rural and urban areas, have either never had any eye care, or have not been attended to by an eye care provider for at least 2 years.
