Pippa has been working as an independent photojournalist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Her training and extensive experience gained over the last two decades, is in photography, video documentary production and directing, writing, project management, program coordination and marketing. Since her early years working in the film and television industry, Pippa has traveled around Africa extensively and developed a deep understanding of the diversity of people who call this continent home. Her work is heavily influenced by these experiences and the fifteen years spent communicating the social development side of Southern Africa. Pippa has an innate gift for embracing the essence of people with empathy, sincerity and compassion. It is not surprising that her natural focus is on human rights and how they affect Africa’s women. Particularly issues like sexual and reproductive health, HIV and Aids, the urban-rural divide, and the environment. Her outstanding technical skills and her remarkable ability to relate to her subjects with warmth and understanding is what sets Pippa apart. She has a creativity and flair that brings each shot to life; and she thinks deeply about the what, who, and how of the moment. Pippa is never aloof, her sensitivity of portraying a society marked by inequality and suffering shines through in her work. Pippa’s ability to truly engage with her subject matter is what makes her work so strong. She has a natural ability to coax the best of out of people. Her humor, infectious positive attitude and professionalism make her a pleasure to work with, and she is not afraid to travel far and wide to the most forgotten, rural places.
