What you should know about Seven Sisters
The wines in the range are sourced from vineyards in the Breede River valley, characterised by vineyards which flourish on alluvial valley soils with adequate drainage as they rest on a bed of river stones. Located east of the Drakenstein Mountains, it is a warm climate region that can be very dry and arid in some places. The river itself provides easy access to irrigation which makes bulk wine production of high yield varieties commonplace. We export to 42 states Our Sauvignon Blanc has been served on American Airlines since 2009, the very first wine in the history of 350 years of winemaking in South Africa. The seven sisters behind this label in the African Roots Wine Brands portfolio are biological sisters and hail from Paternoster, a picturesque fishing village on the Cape's West Coast. The Seven Sisters wine brand evolved from its association with the seven Brutus sisters of Paternoster. The Brutus family lived in a small fishing village on the western coast. Their brother John Brutus will be taking care of the winemaking when completed his studies in oenology and viticulture at Elsenburg. The climatic diversity of the Breede River valley, akin to a Mediterranean climate, influences the Seven Sisters wines with summers being hot and dry. Winters are generally colder than in the Western Cape’s more coastal regions, allowing the vines to achieve proper dormancy. Rainfall is largely contained to the cold winter months, when vines are dormant and can store up resources for the growing season. Surrounding the river, they are mainly alluvial, with some sandy loam. Higher in the mountains, they are more rocky and stony. Shale and sandstone are dominant in Worcester, while Robertson’s red, gravelly soils benefit from pockets of limestone, which add a chalky minerality to the vines grown there.
