The Centre has a vision of women in South Africa being free from violence, empowered to ensure their own reproductive and health rights, free to own their own share of property, having a safe place to stay and empowered to work in a safe and equitable environment. Fair access to resources: We will take up cases that ensure that women receive a fair share of the assets on the dissolution of partnerships, whether by death or separation. This involves ensuring that all partnerships are legally recognised, irrespective of religion and custom. We will take on cases related to women’s access to health care and the interface between HIV/AIDS and our other strategic focus areas. Our advocacy and training work focuses on providing support to other organisations and groups of organisations which advocate the advancement of women’s rights in the WLC’s focus areas. We provide training to ensure the communication and implementation of gains won in court, and as an activity to recover costs. We also provide information, training and capacity building services on a regional level. Establish a cadre of black feminist lawyers within South Africa and ensure gender transformation of the legal profession. Gapminder produces free teaching resources making the world understandable based on reliable statistics. All Gapminder activities are governed by the board. We humans are born with a craving for fat and sugar. We pay attention to dramatic stories and we get bored if nothing happens. For the first time in human history reliable statistics exist. There’s data for almost every aspect of global development. The data shows a very different picture: a world where most things improve; a world that is not divided. People across cultures and religions make decisions based on universal human needs, which are easy to understand. We live in a globalized world, not only in terms of trade and migration. More people than ever care about global development! We know this because we have measured the global ignorance among the world’s top decision makers in public and private sector. We need to teach global facts in schools and in corporate training. Instead of wasting our time blaming the media or condemning the human brain, we develop free teaching material to dismantle misconceptions and promote a fact-based worldview. We identify the most ignored global facts by comparing what people think against the official statistics. Since many people hate statistics, we use photos as data to give the numbers meaning. We also develop teaching materials and knowledge certificates.
