We will develop innovative solutions to mitigate environmental and climate risks. We place people first, putting the highest priority on safe and healthy work practices. The program consisted predominately on core recovery methods and wireline geophysics, with a cutoff depth of 400 metres. This exploratory program was used to determine: a) the position of the coal seams, b) coal analysis, c) coking coal analysis and d) lithological interpretation. This program was combined with wireline geophysics, to indicate the depth and thickness of the coal zones, as well as seam continuity. The East Pit has Makhado’s highest potential hard coking coal values, as coal quality increases from west to east across the coalfield. The coal strike exhibits coal qualities slowly increasing from west to east. Due to the geologically consistent nature of the coal formation within the valley, Signet has progressed directly to delineating mineable resources. This would allow for simple decline shafts, higher yields, lower environmental impact and a general reduction in production costs. Therefore, Signet is currently undertaking core critical processes required for a full review of mineability and plant design.
