Substance Films is a dynamic production company in Cape Town that specialises in media that makes a difference and carries a greater message.  We produce corporate video, television series, documentaries and commercials.

We strategically and creatively tell stories that need to be heard. We actively pursue partnerships with organisations rather than once-off engagements. Video is our primary vehicle of communication, but we also work in the radio, print, online and experiential fields. Yvette Kruger heads up a curated collective of industry professionals and young talent. We are a unique combination of content and creative, but mainly we are passionate about producing great work. Our industry is only as strong as those coming into it. With this in mind, we offer internships that matter. We understand how organisations work and make the process easy for you. We enjoy being involved right from the concept stage. We work in social development, public health and sustainability but don’t ever limit ourselves. (It’s not great for my back, all that sitting, but that’s another blog for another time.) It would just take a very long time and be shaky and frustrating. My skills lie with story-telling: extracting timelines of information that fit together to form a larger picture, be it through words, images, sound, numbers or dialogue. Sometimes it seems like my work is far away from story, but in fact, it is always about the basics: concept, content, character, delivery and relativity. This approach also allows me the magical opportunity to work with other professionals: editors, photographers, camera operators, sound recorders and engineers, animators and sometimes even other producers. On every project, we have at least four brains and sets of experiences giving input. This makes for better work and it stops me feeling worn out and used up at the end of the day.
