We strive to uplift the lives of companion animals in disadvantaged communities by providing free sterilisations, they being a veterinarian, in Bergvliet and Sunnydale.
The clinic on our rented premises has 7 staff, Fish Hoek and Sunnydale and two book shops, in Bergvliet, we have three charity shops, as well as humane education to pet owners.
To help sustain our clinic and shelter, veterinary treatment and food, primary health care, four veterinary assistants and also two animal welfare assistants who operate our mobile clinic van in the townships and bring animals needing treatment or sterilisation to the clinic on our premises.

Our vision as a Pro-Quality of Life organisation where we rescue, rehabilitate and re-home animals in the communities that we serve (and in some that we do not even remotely have any direct obligation to) has been severely tested this year! Expenses and costs have hopelessly exceeded our fund-raising initiatives, revenue from our retail outlets and current donations by our valued and appreciated supporters. Continuing our efforts and initiatives to re-home the rescued animals in our care tirelessly. Cutting back on our basic care and services to our impoverished communities except where people are able to make a financial contribution towards the services we provide. Placing a temporary hold on the FREE sterilisation and puppy vaccinations offered to the communities that we serve. We need all the support possible, to prevent the untenable situation of closing our doors! Be part of our mission to bring relief to animals who suffer abuse. If you’re visiting our adoption pages, we hope you are considering adopting a TEARS dog or cat. Step 1: Have a look at our adoption profiles and see if anyone of those gorgeous faces stands out for you. This happens during a visit to our kennels or cattery when you will be guided through the introductions by an adoptions counsellor. Step 5: Once the home check has been processed, our adoptions staff will give you a happy call to let you know when you can fetch your new family member. Now it’s time to head for the shops for new beds, bowls, toys and treat. Step 6: If you already have pooches at home, we’ll ask you to bring them to TEARS where, in a controlled environment, overseen by experiences staff, we will introduce your pets to the new addition. It does happen that sometimes dogs take an instant dislike to each other which could be dangerous for all concerned. Step 7: You’ve done the shopping, and your dog is going to be great mates with your new addition. Step 8: There are occasions when a dog faces some challenges fitting into a new home. TEARS’ highly-qualified animal behaviourist will follow-up and can help you through the settling-in process or give you the right advice about next steps to take. Feel good fact: A TEARS adoption not only provides you with a new family member, it also means that another dog can find a place at TEARS in the hope of being adopted into a loving home as a new rescue takes the place of your dog in that kennel. They might be a bit out of shape, and a little worn around the edges, but they fit so well! If you have an empty spot on your sofa that needs filling, we might have just the right couch potato for you!
