After completing his PhD at Imperial College in London, and gaining work experience in the UK, Kenya and Australia, Ken returned to South Africa to continue his career in structural engineering. In 1993 Ken established Tension Structures introducing the concept of Tensile Fabric Structures to South Africa. He has 40 years of experience in the field of Structural Engineering and is our head design engineer for all projects. Martin Buhler is an engineering technician with over 35 years experience. He is responsible for producing all Tension Structures’ job related drawings and says he enjoys working with the complex detail they demand. Martin has worked with Tension Structures since it started 21 years ago, and looks forward to seeing the legacy which is Tension Structures continue on in the years to come. Carlo San Giorgio is a mechanical engineer who graduated with a BSc from the University of Cape Town. He has extensive experience working with the design and manufacture of tensile fabric structures at the highest technical level. As Tension Structures’ design engineer and project manager he enjoys the fact that no project is the same and that each structure demands unique detailing. Prior to working at Tension Structures he worked in the precision manufacturing industry. Craig Shepherd is a qualified rope access technician who started with Tension Structure’s sister company, Tensile Cables working in procurement and the factory. He now works with Tension Structures managing fabric and steel manufacturing and installation. He is able to absorb the pressure of challenges and looks forward to those which may present in new projects ahead. Our engineers work hand in hand with architects and designers to develop a design that meets the aesthetic intent and is structurally stable. We then manufacture to the highest standards and install the functional masterpiece on site. We offer architectural umbrellas and gazebos in a set variety of sizes and structures for ease of installation. These structures are available in two types of umbrellas and three types of gazebos. Tension Structures now offers cost effective and easy to install solutions for outdoor entertainment areas for the hospitality sector; or even in your own home.
