We specialise in technical, warranty/guarantee schemes, short-term insurance, actuarial work in the areas of long-term insurance, compensation schemes and medical schemes/administrators/providers. WE HAVE EXTENSIVE PROFESSIONAL AND INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT: Members of our team serve on a number of ASSA Committees (Damages, Enterprise Risk, Health, Microinsurance, TCF) and are involved on the FSB’s SAM structures (Capital Requirements, Governance, Pillar 2), the Microinsurance Working Group of the International Actuarial Association and the IFRS4 Phase 2 discussion group.
WE SPECIALISE IN TECHNICAL, ACTUARIAL WORK: At True South we understand focus to be one of the important keys to success. As far as rating goes, we are a level 2 B-BBEE contributor in terms of the Amended B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice (2013).

In terms of assisting insurers, True South is the second largest provider of statutory services in South Africa, with appointments in both long-term insurance and short-term insurance. To this effect, members of our team hold practising certificates from the Actuarial Society of South Africa in long-term insurance, short-term insurance and health. Appointed actuaries to four major German car brands operating in Southern Africa. Valuation and pricing services required by statute to national schemes for workers’ compensation, road accident compensation and unemployment, strategic pricing and modelling support to Government on the design and implementation of new compensation schemes (or amendments to existing schemes). Strategic support to principal officers, outcomes and performance measurement for both schemes and providers, provider price negotiations, contracting optimisation, HIV incidence estimation, medical scheme pricing and IBNR calculations. Experienced in quantification of loss of income, loss of support, deceased estate and other third party compensation claims. True South was born at the start of 2001, with an initial focus on the local provision of services, on an outsourced basis, to companies based in the United Kingdom. During 2002 we increased our South African involvement and subsequently re-branded as True South Actuaries and Consultants (Pty) Ltd in 2003 to reflect our commitment to the local industry. 2014 saw another key milestone on the company timeline, when the Tree of Life BEE Foundation Trust acquired a majority share in True South. At the time of our establishment, many South African actuaries were leaving Africa for the developed world. True South’s founding team however made a conscious decision to dedicate their focus and energy towards making a positive impact on the local Southern African industry. True south is the direction of the axis around which our planet rotates. It sounds relatively easy to find, but is in fact not. Due to the motion of the ions within our planet’s liquid core, earth acts like a giant magnet and is therefore surrounded by a magnetic field with north and south poles. The axis of this magnet-effect differs from the axis of earth’s rotation by approximately 11 degrees, and as such the geographical and magnetic poles at any end of the scale are not located in the same place. A manual compass is guided by earth’s magnetic field, and explorers therefore need to take this natural deviation into account when assessing true direction. To complicate matters even further, earth’s magnetic field is not constant but changes over time.
