The Wembley story began in 1910 with the arrival in Cape Town of Mohammed Eshack Gangraker, who left his rural village of Morba, India in search of a better life. In response to the suggestions of local football fans the business was renamed Wembley Stores after a popular soccer team of the day. Under the young man’s leadership the business flourished, expanding its operations to include a fast-food eatery and a travel agency. Today the proud Gangraker family tradition continues with Fatima Gangraker and kids lending their talents and effort to the continued growth and success of the Wembley Group’s endeavours. The impact of the tournament has spanned far beyond the playing field, forging bonds between the young and old that are so often missing in modern society, and leading many of the participants to become involved in social upliftment and community tuition programs. The tournament will be further enhanced with fun new activities, along with great Wembley food. For our Muslim clientele, the restrooms also provide private, tranquil wudu and salaah facilities. The beautiful decor and impressive architectural design also make the hall a sought-after venue for private functions, with all profits generated going back into the Islamia College’s coffers.
