We provide wildlife volunteers the opportunity to get involved in real wildlife conservation work. Introduction to Wildlife ACT a wildlife conservation, wildlife monitoring and animal tracking group in Zululand South Africa.

Wildlife ACT was co-founded in 2008 by 3 individuals, Johan Maree, Chris Kelly and Dr Simon Morgan, who were determined to find a way of ensuring sustainable, long-term monitoring and conservation projects. Many African game reserves do not have the funds or capacity to run effective wildlife conservation projects despite monitoring being an essential part of conservation. Wildlife ACT assists these game reserves by providing tracking and monitoring services free of charge. Wildlife ACT is unique in that we actively advance conservation by initiating, implementing and managing monitoring projects on reserves which do not have existing monitoring programmes in place; or by taking over existing monitoring projects on reserves that can no longer fund or manage them. Volunteers who join in important conservation work get both a wildlife experience and make a contribution to conservation through their time, efforts and funds. We’re currently focused in Zululand and are 100% reliant on the support of our conservation volunteers, who assist our monitors in their daily tracking and monitoring of endangered wildlife species such as African Wild Dogs, Cheetah and Black Rhino, as well as priority species such as Elephant, Lion, Leopard and many more. Conservation volunteers get far more than the typical safari experience by playing an active role in REAL conservation. We are a small team of passionate and professional conservationists actively protecting the future of endangered animals. The founding members of Wildlife ACT are Dr Simon Morgan, Chris Kelly and Johan Maree. Together they have over 30 years of ecology experience. They are charismatic conservationists who are mostly from research or field guide backgrounds. We all share a love for animals, adventure and preserving the unique South African environment. It was during this process that we noticed the need for the enhancement and outsourcing of existing monitoring programs, now called Wildlife ACT. Thokozani worked as a guide and wildlife ambassador for many years before joining Wildlife ACT. Sboniso has been involved in conservation for many years. Even before joining the Wildlife ACT Team Sboniso had started a few of his own wildlife ambassador clubs. Growing up in Cape Town with the mountains, valleys and ocean surrounding you, it is difficult not to have a real appreciation for the intrinsic value of nature. Since childhood I’ve had a powerful pull towards the wild. Growing up visiting reserves has been one of the most eye-opening experiences and has had a huge impact on my becoming a conservationist. Growing up in South Africa, with parents who took us on so many adventures throughout this country, has formed the foundation of my love for nature and being out in the wilderness.
