In Salzburg he successfully completed a conducting degree at the Mozarteum in 1982 and worked as senior lecturer at the Windhoek Conservatoire for seven years. Here he conducted the Windhoek Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Orchestras and was freelance repetiteur and choirmaster for the SWA Arts Council. Hereafter in 1990 he was appointed as choirmaster, assistant conductor and repetiteur at PACOFS in Bloemfontein. In 1995 he was appointed as departmental head at the Free State Musicon and became known as pianist, accompanist, conductor, educator and adjudicator. One of his responsibilities was to conduct the Free State Youth Symphony Orchestra, with which he toured the country annually. Since the family moved to Cape Town in 2008, he completed a PhD at UCT on the Conductors of the Cape Town Municipal Orchestra, 1914-1965: a historical perspective, is a freelance conductor, teacher, educator, adjudication, and partner at Allmusic. Anna-Marie was a music teacher for 15 years and was involved in many events as an organizer. The biggest event during student years was the NATIONAL KUESTA ART FESTIVAL in Through her initiative this event changed from a workshop based student activity towards an Art Festival. All the planning (day to day, accommodation, competition, groups, practicing time) was done by her and she liaised with adjudicators and caterers. During 1988 to 1989 Anna-Marie was instrumental in organizing the first international choir workshop of the South African Choral Society, The Philip McLachlan V Workshop in Windhoek. During the following McLachlan workshops organizers used her experience in various roles such as assisting international artists who were the speakers/performers during the workshops. This included practical issues of performances and stage management. Most memorable was assisting Robert Sund from Sweden. While living in Bloemfontein for 18 years she became involved with the VRYSTAATSE KUNSWEDSTRYDVERENIGING (VKV) and was for 9 times (the Eisteddfod took place every second year) responsible for the instrumental part of the Eisteddfod.
