Our company started out in 2010 representing BioFire Fireplaces, the leading European provider of quality full ceramic fireplaces. We have since expanded our fireplace range to not just include the premium BioFire fireplace range and now also build masonry heaters that are accessible to even more South African households. With the introduction of the Designer Radiance series of fireplaces in 2011 we now have an ideal heating option for people looking for an economical home and business heating solution. Long used in central and northern Europe the concept of masonry heaters is relatively new to South Africa. The full ceramic structure of the fireplace stores the energy it generates and provides it as radiant heat long after the flames have gone. And yes, all of our Designer Fireplaces are also eco-friendly fireplaces. The cycle of short firings and long periods of heat-release mentioned above help ensure that Ceramic Masonry Fireplaces that we build are a much more convenient option for heating a house with wood that the more conventional steel fireplaces so often found in South African homes. Then, overnight and throughout the next day when the fire is no longer alight the radiant heat generated by the Ceramic Masonry will still be warming the house, ready for the cycle to start again next evening. A Ceramic Masonry Fireplace is a freestanding fireplace that is made of masonry such as ceramic brick or firestone. It consist of a firebox as well as heat-exchange channels that help to provide additional surface heating areas. The fire in a Ceramic Masonry Fireplace burns much hotter than in a metal stove. Not only does this help to lower the emissions rate during the combustion process, making them very eco friendly, but when not being fired the extra heat generated is slowly released over time as it is radiated from the heat trapping masonry. Although it is a well-known fact that masonry takes a little longer to heat than metal, once ceramic masonry is warm it is able to radiate this heat over a much longer period of time. It also radiates this heat at a much lower temperature than metal fireplaces, which makes them incredibly child friendly. The idea behind radiant heat fireplaces can be traced as far back as 5,000 B.C. when massive blocks of masonry were used to retain heat and foreshadowed what was to become the earliest forms of fire hearths. But it was not until about 500 years ago that the first kachelofen were designed and built with the purpose of heating a relatively large home.
