We celebrate 21 years of giving our students the chance to reach beyond their circumstances through being empowered with skills that could open doors to a career in the performing arts.
Our mission is to provide children in historically disadvantaged communities with the opportunity for enjoyment, empowerment and promotion of self esteem through the medium of dance, as well as training professional dancers and developing a unique, indigenous dance company.

To provide a structured extra-mural activity in the form of dance classes for children and youth in historically disadvantaged communities. To provide support for the communities in which we operate by providing a safe, contained and positive environment for the children in our daily dance classes. To reveal, nurture and create opportunities for the wealth of talent and ability that exists, often undeveloped, in these under-serviced communities. To train students who possess the motivation and requisite talent to become professional dancers, teachers of dance and choreographers of the future. Passion is when you put more energy into something that is required to do it. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement, passion is ambition that is materialised into action to put as much heart, mind, body and soul into something as is humanly possibly. Dancing makes me feel magical, as if anything is possible. The studio and the stage are like holy ground to me. Dance is not just steps; it's a feeling, an energy that radiates out of you. When you come across difficulties you find a way to overcome them. Some of us won't become dancers, but because of what we learn at DFA, we all have a chance to become a professional at something. It is an orphan without the true soul of the dancer. The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music Agnes De Mille. The most essential thing in dance discipline is devotion, the steadfast and willing devotion to the labor that makes the classwork not a gymnastic hour and a half, or at the lowest level, a daily drudgery, but a devotion that allows the classroom discipline to become moments of dancing too. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired Martha Graham. It is a barometer telling the state of the soul's weather to all who can read it. It takes an athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer. You must think about it day and night, dream about it, desire it. Someone once said that dancers work just as hard as policemen, always alert, always tense, but see policemen don't have to be beautiful at the same time.
