This business park is at the cutting-edge of sustainable design and offers a unique working environment in a secure, well-managed facility. It was a dilapidated shore block that required modernisation to take advantage of its prime location on the bay. The addition of balcony modular units were used to hide the existing facade and add value to the existing apartments. The system of steel structures created maximum impact for the existing apartment owners. The Design generator was to maximise visibility from all sides, giving tenants as much exposure as possible while emulating the movement and dynamism of its context. We responded to climate through various architectural interventions, as well as interplay between integration into landscape and dynamic form. This new sports facility and fields have been designed to incorporate the community’s recreational needs on a tight budget. The building orientates itself to the North and incorporates a spine Courtyard passage that organizes the spaces and provides a link between the main space/hall and the outdoor covered area. The site was earmarked as one of two Venue Specific Training Sites in the greater Cape Town area. The Hankey Magistrate’s Court Offices is the first public building in the town and provided relief to an existing facility that was not coping with the area’s needs. A district and regional court provide the focal point of an intense brief that had to be accommodated on a site too small for the building. The False Bay Ecology Park Head Quarters is the first of four buildings to be completed, running over the course of a four year period. An existing yacht club building was re-used in order to meet the requirements of the client’s needs of using sustainable methods to construct the building. Some of the other sustainable methods used were Photo- Valtiac, grey water systems and sand bag walls. Tasked by the developer to propose ways of retaining an existing tenant, a large-scale international electronic manufacturing company, on the verge of relocating due to changing requirements and corporate image. This new house set in Newlands was designed to meet the client’s requirement that the house take full advantage of natural light in winter and remain cool in summer. It also had to relate to Kirstenbosch and the mountain behind it.
