Founded in 1989, Golf Data is widely considered to be South Africa’s leading full service golf course design, construction & maintenance company having successfully designed constructed and maintained some of the most prestigious and awarded courses and estates in South Africa. Although best known for our involvement in the golf course industry, the GD Group has expanded over the years to offer a far broader range of services with divisions such as GD Landscapes & GD Civils. Robbie Marshall, Owner and Chairman of Golf Data has over 30 years’ experience in the turf & specialist golf course construction industry. Robbie’s example and passion for what we do has served as the touchstone of our business since our inception. Gary is currently based at Steyn City, near Dainfern Johannesburg. Sean is an admitted attorney having served his articles at Webber Wentzel Attorneys (South Africa’s premier corporate law firm), who also holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town. Sean manages contractual issues, marketing and new business development within Golf Data Group as well as overseeing the management of our Cape Maintenance Division. Sean is based at our head office in Somerset West, Western Cape. Hannes is a qualified chartered accountant and also holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town. He has experience in a wide range of industries and has held senior management and financial positions in steel manufacturing and retail, ship repair, manufacturing and financial services. Hannes is based at our head office in Somerset West, Western Cape. Golf Data Design has over the years completed a number of successful projects, across a range of budgets and specifications. Our close association with Jack Nicklaus and Nicklaus Design, has enabled us to keep abreast of all the latest international trends and technologies available in the design field, as well as providing first-hand experience in the design and development of South Africa’s most prestigious residential golf estates. As the game of golf evolves with the on-going advances of new club and ball technology, every golf club should have a short, medium and long term plan to renovate and modernise so as to remain relevant in such a competitive arena. Any redesign of an existing course should remain cognisant of the member’s requirements whilst providing a fair but challenging test. Our strong maintenance pedigree ensures careful regard to good maintenance friendly design and construction practices are entrenched in our design philosophy. Our integrated approach to course redesign can often free up valuable land for commercial or residential development opportunities. The ability to create an improved golf course product whilst identifying surplus land for development has proved to be gainful for many clubs.
