There comes a stage in the downward path of certain human beings at which point, they literally can no longer help themselves. At that point someone has to step in and give them a lift; that is what THE HAVEN tries to do. We believe in a future where communities, organisations, and government can create the supportive network to ensure that no-one is forced to live on the streets to survive. The Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation provides temporary shelter, physical care, social welfare and family re-unification services to adult homeless persons in the Western Cape. The Haven Night Shelter was established in 1978 in Cape Town, South Africa. We were registered as a Section 21 (Not for Gain) Public Company in 1983, a Non Profit Organisation in 2000, and as a Public Benefit Organisation in So also for international interested people it makes donating easier. For our foreign supporters we created a PayPal account to make it easier to join us in our mission. We recognise that the achievement of our Vision requires the ongoing execution of our Mission through all the programs that we offer to help the homeless. This structure was created to facilitate the legal standing of the Public Benefit Organisation. We are all familiar with the sight of people sleeping on the streets, begging at traffic lights, or pushing shopping trolleys that are filled with all of their possessions. Being homeless means a lot more than not having a roof over your head. Being separated from your family, friends and other people who care about you\. Perception of not having access to basic human rights like water and medical treatment. You can become homeless through a series of events, as explained in this example: The death of a child, parent or spouse may leave a person so grief stricken that it leads to more difficulties.Loss of employment due to non-attendance or poor performance, followed by the loss of their car or home because they don’t have an income. This downward spiral continues until the person migrates to living on the streets, having lost all connection to their former lives. Being an ex-soldier or prisoner who was removed from society for a long time, etc. To continue our work requires your support through donation, volunteering, and creating awareness about what we do to help the people in your community.
