The AMS advantage ensures our graduates enter high school with confidence, a love of learning and prepared for their future roles as responsible citizens. Adults who are merely guides within our child-centered environment. All the Directresses are qualified and assistants are either in training or qualified. The school is run by a Board of Directors, which is made up of current and ex-parents. All extra-mural activities are run privately, either by individuals or by established organisations. Extra-murals run from February to November each year, and are only offered if the minimum numbers required enrol for the programme. The art program is integrated into the regular Montessori exercises. The learners learn basic skills such as cutting with scissors and pasting, while exploring different textures and materials. The children are given a basic introduction to Xhosa & Afrikaans through songs, games and other fun activities. In this way, children become aware of a new language and are excited to practice using it. New vocabulary is taught using the actual object, which is then touched and felt, or by performing the action described. The children do basic baking or cooking activities on a regular basis as part of the usual curriculum. This includes making mini pizzas, baking muffins or cupcakes, marie biscuit decorating, making fruit salads, and many more. Swimming is offered as an extra-mural throughout the year by qualified instructors in a private, enclosed heated pool. The swimming school offers transport services (included in their costs), which allows them to collect and return learners for their weekly sessions. Playball offers 6 different sport and movement programmes for boys and girls between the ages of two and eight. Skilled facilitators bring their equipment to the school, offering a fun-filled, energetic and positive programme in a safe, familiar space. Madrassah (Religious Instruction for Muslim Learners) is offered as an additional extra-mural. Your child is taught by specialist music teachers in a fun, relaxed environment. Your child is gently encouraged, through specifically structured activities, to explore, move independently, learn to be part of the group, develop confidence, practice motor skills, listen carefully, master competency in feeling and expressing a beat and be comfortable with self-expression. Your child learns basic music concepts, terminology and is exposed to different music genres. Your child is taught to read music and play a music instrument. Drama enables an exciting and creative learning environment that is both supportive and challenging.
