Our founders have always shared a deep passion for the environment and particularly jungles and oceans. This led them to their next realisation which was that it was their role to create an environmental academy that would act as a springboard for green professionals. They decided to enter the environmental education field and gained the necessary experience and skills required to be effective environmental trainers. Learners can be assured that the knowledge they are gaining is considered to be best practice in each specific field. As well as being a founder of Terra Firma Solutions, Ken is a Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) who has spent his career specialising in energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy. Ken has worked with some of the largest commercial and industrial companies in Southern Africa to build and implement strategies aimed at reducing the usage of energy, water, waste and carbon emissions. Ken is also an expert in the area of carbon project development and has managed several carbon projects from their inception through to successful registration. In addition to his expertise in the field Ken is an acclaimed trainer and sought after lecturer who has designed and lectured a number of highly successful environmental efficiency courses. Ken has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a MEng in renewable and sustainable energy from Stellenbosch University. Justin has significant expertise in energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, carbon foot printing and carbon credit projects, having worked with numerous listed South African and Namibian companies in the retail, manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics and agriculture sectors. Justin is one of the head lecturers within Terra Firma Academy and has designed and given courses in the fields of energy and water efficiency over the past 5 years. Shaun has over 5 years’ experience in the electrical energy efficiency industry, with a strong focus on Green IT, encompassing large corporate Data Centre energy management projects and the related end-user environments within South Africa. Shaun is also a Green Star SA Accredited Professional, awarded through the Green Building Council of South Africa and has an all-encompassing knowledge of energy efficient lighting, with experience in numerous commercial lighting projects. Martina is a co-founder of Terra Firma Solutions as well as being a sought after residential Eco-Consultant and has been featured in Oprah Magazine amongst other publications. Martina has personally educated hundreds of students who today make up the green professional workforce that is changing the residential landscape for the better. David is a carbon, energy and sustainability professional with a wealth of experience in carbon footprinting and emission reduction strategies for the large multinational ICT, steel, oil & gas, mining, and chemical industry clients. He has also been integral in developing carbon footprinting tools aimed at the automation of emissions measurement for customers. Caitlin is a carbon and sustainability analyst who holds an honours degree in Environmental and Geographical Science from the University of Cape Town. Caitlin has experience in carbon footprinting, product carbon footprinting and water footprinting working on projects for large companies within South Africa. Caitlin has further experience in the field of sustainability specifically in analyzing gaps in organizations environmental, social and economic sustainability. Caitlin is a SETA accredited assessor in the field of carbon footprinting and climate change. Josch has significant amounts of experience in the Solar PV sector in both South Africa and Europe. Josch has personally designed and built a number of Solar PV plants in Southern Africa and is considered an expert in the field of Solar PV. Josch spent a number of years in Germany working for what is universally recognised as the leading inverter company in the world.
